About Kornreich Technology Center
Mission
The Nathaniel H. Kornreich Technology Center, which is part of Abilities!, is a not-for-profit assistive technology demonstration, education, and evaluation center. Through the use of assistive technology, the Center is dedicated to promoting the full participation and independence of children and adults with disabilities in school, at work, at home, and in the community.
Through a program of national outreach initiatives that will allow us to teach others to do what we do, the focus of the Kornreich Technology Center has expanded from evaluation and training of individuals with disabilities to playing a larger role in the field of assistive technology (AT). These include collaborations with agencies across the country directly serving the disabled population as well as universities training professionals to work with people with disabilities. A major component of these collaborations is the use of our distance learning capabilities, including video teleconferencing and web based projects, enabling us to interact with many more individuals than we could ever have done previously.

Travel Directions
Abilities! is located at the corner of I. Willets Road and Searingtown Road in Albertson, New York. Albertson is a few miles east of the Queens border of New York City, in the western part of Nassau County.
By Car
From southern and midtown Manhattan:
Queens Midtown Tunnel to Long Island Expressway (Rte 495) EAST through Queens. Take
exit 36 SOUTH-Searingtown Rd. Turn RIGHT onto Searingtown. Proceed as below
From upper Manhattan:
Triborough Bridge to Queens. Continue on Grand Central Parkway EAST through Queens
(becomes Northern State Parkway). Take exit #27 SOUTH-Shelter Rock Road. Turn (RIGHT)
onto Shelter Rock. Proceed as below
From eastern Long Island (Suffolk and eastern Nassau):
Long Island Expressway (Rte. 495) WEST to exit 36 SOUTH - Searingtown Rd. Proceed
as below
From Westchester and New England:
N.Y. State Thruway (Rte. 87) or New England Thruway (Rte. 95) SOUTH through Bronx
to Throggs Neck Bridge. From bridge, take first exit-Cross Island Pkwy. Proceed
SOUTH to exit 30-Long Island Expressway (Rte. 495) EAST. Proceed to exit #36 SOUTH-Searingtown
Rd. Turn RIGHT onto Searingtown. Proceed as below
From northern New Jersey and upstate New York:
George Washington Bridge to Cross Bronx Expy. (Rte. 95) across Bronx to Throgs Neck
Bridge. From bridge, take first exit-Cross Island Pkwy. Proceed SOUTH to exit 30-Long
Island Expressway (Rte. 495) EAST. Proceed to exit #36 SOUTH-Searingtown Rd. Turn
RIGHT onto Searingtown. Proceed as below
From southern New Jersey:
New Jersey Turnpike (Rte. 95) to Goethals Bridge, across Staten Island to Verrazano
Bridge. Take Belt Pkwy. EAST to Cross Island Pkwy. Proceed NORTH to exit 30-Long
Island Expressway (Rte. 495) EAST. Proceed to exit #36 SOUTH-Searingtown Rd. Turn
RIGHT onto Searingtown. Proceed as below
FROM SEARINGTON ROAD (Long Island Expressway Exit 36):
Take Searingtown Rd. SOUTH about ¾ mile to I. Willets Rd. You will see the Abilities!
sign on the far right corner. Turn right onto I. Willets Rd. and take second driveway
on your left.
FROM SHELTER ROCK ROAD (Northern Parkway Exit 27):
Take Shelter Rock Rd. SOUTH to second traffic light. Turn LEFT onto I. Willets Rd.
for about 3/4 mile. About a block BEFORE traffic light, you will see Abilities!
sign on your right. Turn into first driveway.
PARKING:
Proceed beyond fence into parking Area B. Note entrance on Bienecke Patio on your
left. After parking in Area B or Area E beyond, return to Bienicke entrance and
have receptionist call Kornreich Center.
By Railroad
The Long Island Railroad runs between New York City (Penn Station) and eastern end of Long Island. Take train to Mineola Station and take taxi to NCDS (fare is approx. $5) OR train to Manhas Station and take taxi to Abilities! (fare is approx. $5.50)
By Bus (from Queens)
Take Metropolitan Transit Authority N20 bus on Roosevelt Avenue near Union Street in Flushing. Transfer to N23 bus in Roslyn at the CLOCKTOWER stop. Take N23 to Willis Avenue and I. Willets Road. Walk WEST on I. Willets Road several blocks to Searingtown Road. Abilities! is on far left corner of I. Willets and Searingtown Roads.
