Tours
The Kornreich Technology Center
has displays of assistive technology devices for a variety of needs. On occasion,
tours are arranged that are tailored to the interests of specific audiences. Visitors
are guided through the displays by an appropriate staff member to give them an overview
of the capabilities of assistive devices. At other times demonstrations of new or
interesting assistive technology products are given, usually by a manufacturer or
vendor of the product.
Product Demonstrations
From time to time, the Kornreich Technology Center invites producers and suppliers
of assistive technology devices to update us on their current and upcoming products.
In the past, we have hosted demonstration sessions from DynaVox, AbleNet, Madentec,
Assistive Technology, Inc., Maxi Aids and others. Check the Upcoming Events page
frequently for dates and times of upcoming demonstrations.
Open Lab Days
Wednesdays, from 3:30 to 6:30 PM is the time when the extensive resources of the Kornreich Technology Center are available for viewing and trying in an informal ting. Consumers, parent, teachers, therapists have an opportunity to preview software, review our extensive collection of assistive technology devices, browse the Rae C. Kornreich Library holdings. Although Individual recommendations and one-to-one training cannot be provided in this ting, a staff member is available to guide visitors to the resources that interest them. A $5.00 per person fee is charged for this convenient after-school or after-work session. Be sure to call ahead (516/465-1632) before coming.
Referrals
People often contact us with questions related to assistive technology. While we cannot provide extensive consultations by phone or e-mail, or recommend assistive technology for individuals without an evaluation, we may be able to direct callers to a resource within or outside the Kornreich Technology Center where they can find the desired information.
